Trustee Role: Nature Conservation 

Time commitments: Attend Trustee Board, attend the AGM and other events run by the Trust. Meet occasionally with the Nature Conservation Manager. 

Remuneration: The post is voluntary and not remunerated. 

Location: Meetings are normally held at the Trust’s office - ETNA, 13 Rosslyn Road, Twickenham, TW1 2AR. Visits to specific sites will be expected.  

Purpose of the role 

Provide the Board of Trustees, CEO and Nature Conservation Manager with expert, professional opinion and advice in relation to nature conservation. 

Main responsibilities  

  • Lead development of the Trust’s nature conservation strategy 
  • Assist in shaping the Trust’s educational and engagement objectives 
  • Champion nature conservation in the operational area 
  • Provide high level support and advice to the Nature Conservation Manager on current and new projects 
  • Contribute to the development of grant applications and funding for new projects 
  • From time to time observe and take part in conservation activities and report on findings 

Person specification 

Essential 

  • Enthusiasm for and commitment to the Trust’s objectives with time to give in support of their achievement 
  • Appropriate qualifications in conservation 
  • Significant senior level experience of directing or managing conservation at a local and landscape level 
  • Demonstrable experience of engaging communities, local groups and volunteers 
  • Demonstrable understanding and experience of conservation education programmes at all levels of ability 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including ability to adapt communication styles to a variety of circumstances 
  • Excellent team-working, leadership and negotiating skills 
  • Competent use of IT skills. 

Desirable 

  • A track record of successfully bidding for grants and other fundraising activities
