Get involved Duke of Edinburgh award volunteering The Environment Trust offers environmental volunteering places for Bronze, Silver and Gold DofE participants. As environmental activities cannot realistically be completed in an hour a week, DofE has agreed that participants can commit to 4 hours one Saturday per month for the length of their DofE volunteering period. Volunteering sessions will begin at 10.00am and end around 2.00pm with a break for a drink/biscuit. We will be working around the local area but will provide you with the full details of where to meet and provide you with a mobile number to contact incase of any difficulties. Activities will vary and you will need warm and waterproof clothing plus wellies. During your volunteering sessions the Trust will explain why you are doing each activity and will show you outside examples of subjects you may be learning in school such as: Competition amongst flora/fauna - non-native and native invasive species Adaptation of organisms to survive in an ecological niche or habitat The human impact on the environment Pollution Pest and plant diseases Habitat loss & endangered species - biodiversity and ecosystem services. Detritus and decomposition Participants will: Make a difference to their environment and understand why it matters Learn practical conservation skills Learn to work as a team Meet new friends Unfortunately we cannot offer volunteer placements to Duke of Edinburgh participants under 16 years old.
